Postpartum Support Reimagined

During pregnancy we have unlimited resources telling us every little thing about our baby, including their size compared to produce. During birth we are surrounded by professionals supporting us through every stage of labor. Then we take our baby home...

The first months of parenthood can be challenging. We are navigating physical recovery and the mental load of our changed life. We might feel a bit disconnected from pre-baby support circles, spending most of our time at home. The primary advice we hear is "sleep when baby sleeps" and the next set of advice on google is "how to get your body back".
I am determined to change that experience creating resources, tools and services to support postpartum parents.  Here are some of my top recommendations to help parents focus on their wellbeing during times of transition:

Intention/Mantra
Create phrases to support your day. Write them or say them to reset the brain's default setting looking for problems during moments of change. "I am the perfect parent for my baby."


Visualizations
Close or relax your eyes. Imagine you are transported to a time of joy from your past or future. Feel that energy shift in your body as you continue on with your day.

Meditation
Meditation is present moment awareness. It helps us re-set our nervous system and it only takes a few minutes. Use apps or simply sit and focus on your breath. Notice how you feel after a few minutes of being present with your body.

Slow Breathing
Slowly inhale, gather your lips like a straw and take an even longer exhale through the lips. An elongated exhale engages the Parasympathetic Nervous System telling your body you are safe.

Tension Release

Find spaces of tension in the body. Engage the muscles with your inhale and as you exhale release all the tension in your body.

Body Scan
​Close or relax your eyes. Slowly notice each part of your body from your toes to the crown of your head, releasing tension as you breathe.

Story Time
Connect with a friend asking them for space where they simply listen and validate your experience as you share your birth story and postpartum experience.

Mindful Connection
Choose one routine activity with your baby and make it a moment for connection and mindfulness. (ex - diaper changes) Use that time to release anything you cannot control. Be present in your body, breathing deep and engaging with your baby singing and talking to them.

Fill Your Cup
What helps you feel recharged, loved, and appreciated? Shifting self-care to small consistent activities will increase success-rate during the postpartum time period.

Parenthood is a series of non-stop transitions. A transition coach helps you navigate each shift with your goals in mind and the tools to get there. Think of an "executive coach" but instead of support managing a business and team, you gain insight on how to achieve the life you want in all aspects of life including parenthood, personal and professional.
